Welcome to FlyStanwell

One of the premier flying sites in Australia. We have an unrivaled history stretching back to some of the first ever experiments in flight done by Lawrence Hargrave in the late 19th Century. Today, as then, we have the privilege of flying a beautiful stretch of the coastline between Sydney and Wollongong.

This is the website of FlyStanwell, formerly the Stanwell Park Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club (SPHGPC). The role of the club is to maintain the flying site for the use and enjoyment of the membership and promote the sport within the community. We cater for pilots of all abilities and try to foster an atmosphere of safety, encouragement and enjoyment. If you're just thinking of trying flying out then take a look at our instructors section.

FlyStanwell Reserve Repack Day @ Moyes Factory Is your "Plan B" ready for action? Don’t let your reserve become a forgotten relic in the back of your harness. Join us at the legendary Moyes Factory in Kurnell for a hands-on, expert-led repacking session. This isn’t just a service where you drop off your gear, this is an empowerment session. Under the expert guidance of Forrest Park, you will learn the mechanics, the layout, and the "Zen" of a perfect pack job. Why Attend? Hands-On Mastery: You won't just watch; you’ll be the one flaking the fabric and seating the lines. Expert Oversight: Forrest Park brings years of technical experience to ensure your pack is clean, symmetrical, and ready to fire. Factory Access: There is no better place to talk gear than the floor of the Moyes Factory the heart of Australian hang gliding and paragliding history. Self-Reliance: Gain the confidence and technical knowledge to maintain your own equipment throughout the season. Event Details Location: Moyes Factory Kurnell Mentor: Forrest Park What to Bring: Your Harness, reserve, and any specific packing loops/bungees for your system and if you have your own reserve packing plate bring it along. What is supplied: Generic Bungees, reserve packing plates and expert guidance. What You’ll Learn Inspection: Checking for dampness, debris, and line tangles after a season of flying. The "S" Fold & Pack: Master the geometry of a clean, fast-opening canopy tailored for your specific deployment bag. Locking Stows: Getting the tension just right so the lines release smoothly without a "bird's nest." Harness Integration: Ensuring your bridle is routed correctly and your handle is seated for a clean, snag-free throw. The Professional Edge: A reserve is a life-saving device. Regular repacks (typically every 6 months) are essential to prevent the fabric from "setting" or sticking, ensuring it inflates the moment it hits the airflow. Spaces are limited to 20 ensure everyone gets enough floor space and individual instruction. Don't wait until you're in an emergency to wonder if your reserve is ready, come down to Kurnell and get it sorted with the pros. Note: Only one ticket per member is permitted.
